Aqaba and the Dead Sea Rd back to Amman

This was a surprise. I've always loved the name. Aqaba is evocative. Lawrence of Arabia stuff. It is unique in that there are 3 borders visible. Egypt, Israel and Jordan. It's on the Red Sea which is crystal clear and a beautiful colour.

on the way to Aqaba
the train on the train line that Lawrence blew up!
Jerusalem in the background
It was surreal. There are 3 countries here. Egypt to the left, Israel and then Jordan. Unique. The water was so beautiful and Jordan had a couple of beaches. Apparently very clear and can see to great depths. There was a glass bottom boat on the water.
The was an old castle too.
. An original door. Metal over wood. Think olive wood.
a square between the castle and the water.
then the drive by the Dead Sea. Apparently it's doing up. Shrinks every year. There are plans to build a camel from the Dead Sea to the Mediterranean Sea to stop the shrinkage. There is a400m drop so hydro power could be generated.
there was a wire fence but the driver climbed through a hole! A big drop!!
through the wire!
We arrived back in our hotel about 5. Time for a shower, rest or...
We got a big surprise. We had been upgraded.
it was very glamorous. A wonderful lady night present.
We went out for dinner in 3 taxis to the place we went on the first night.
A lovely end to our Jordan adventure.

  1. The contrast of the dry rocks and hills to the clear water is so beautiful.
