Slovakia and Banská Štiavnica

The view from my window this morning.
Laszl bought pastries for breakfast.
We had a lovely apartment. So tasty furnished.
my bedroom
I've never seen hold cutlery before!
a hallway with bathroom door on the right.
i thought the doors were fascinating.
Then we were off. Packed up the car then walked. Up!
This town is built in a volcanic crater so ending is up. Steeply up!
the entrance to the mine
We booked for a mine for. So the inevitable lecture! However it was in Slovakian so none of us could understand a word and she went on for a long time. It was very funny. Every now and then there was a picture to circulate. The mine goes under the town.

Silver and Gold were mined here. The town  was very rich. German technology was used to extract the metals.
We went 500m into the tunnel and eventually were 40m down. It was an amazing experience.
the Slovakian tour guide. Finding about the lighter!
that's where we were under the city
a shaft to somewhere
a rather alarming broken floorboard.
a large chamber filled with photographs of fabulous people ECU had visited! Who cares!
that was faster were had descended these stairs.
It was a great tour, having never been in a mine before. There were places where water dropped from the roof and other places where the was water under our feet.
these were part of an old building near the place we picked up our hard hats and raincoats.
From there were went up more. It's amazing how steep these hills are.
those bloody trucks are even here!
beautiful buildings
and lovely little lanes
autumn is here
the pavement we walked on
great boots!
unfortunately this church wasn't open to visit
a memorial to plague victims
all so pretty
they were playing great jazz here. There's was beer tasting. Both Ildi and Laszlo like beer so had a taste.
so old!
and still going up - see the hill in the background?
it was fun looking down on zinc rooves
and what about this entry? But for the feint hearted!
then a visit to this place.
it read truly incredible.
