A day in Cairo

I mucked about this morning reading, dozing and of course sorting the bags and a bit of washing.   Mislaid but found my pills and the rest fell into place.
I decided to see the city so got a driver from hotel taxi man.
Abel took me to the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Because there is now a New Cairo - the President wanted it to show off the new  Grand Egyptian Museum it takes over an hour to get there. Through dust and half built freeways and hotels for the upper classes (so I was told) it seemed non ending. Btw the museum has taken 15yrs so far and still not finished - a German architect. One can get updates on the building!

And the history of the museum!

But I digress. The bazaar was amazing. Abel left me for an hr to wander. There were so many tiny shops. I watched the people. I talked to some of the shop people. That's what I love to do.
the cats here are scrawny
They were bbqing chicken. It looked very tempting but I'm a bit nervous about street food (previous experience) They were trying to pull a blind across but it was stuck. When I returned it was sorted.
I also saw one place where they were deep frying eggplant and some other morsels that looked tempting. Abel bought me one and I ate it. Very tasty and so far so good!
We went over the Nile - towards Alexandria and the other way Aswan. Such a famous river. Cairo is on a delta so there were islands in the middle.
Of course I got taken to the perfume shop and the papyrus shop but I'm done with buying stuff. I feel bad but just don't want it. I am trying to spread the tourist dollars across things I do want. I did tip the driver- adove what was required! He cost $75aud so that's spreading it around I reckon and I really enjoyed it.
I had a beer before dinner. Not game to try another cocktail. Then pizza for dinner. So Egyptian!
it was good. Veg. I ate 2/3

What I found out.
